New Oral Surgery Patients

Your first visit to our office establishes a vital foundation for our relationship with you. During the first visit, we make sure to obtain important background information like your medical history and give you time to get to know your doctor. To understand what to expect for your first visit to our practice, please read through this page. You’ll find all the practical information you need, such as a map and directions to our office, practice hours, payment policies, and more. There’s also background information about our committed staff and our first visit procedures. You can even save some time at your first visit by printing out and completing the patient forms in advance of your appointment.

WORKING WITH YOUR FAMILY DENTIST

Because your family dentist plays a critical role in your oral health, we strongly urge you to visit him or her regularly. We recognize the importance of good communication between doctors and are committed to working in partnership with your referring doctor to provide you with superior care.

Because we consider our office an extension of your doctor’s, we use a number of methods to ensure that he or she is informed of all aspects of your surgical treatment.

OUR COMMITTMENT

  • Convenience: Because we want your visits to be as convenient as possible, we work to schedule every appointment with your hectic lifestyle in mind. Additionally, Dr. Barber and Dr. Springer can admit you to area hospitals where they have privileges for both in-patient and out-patient procedures.
  • Communication: Treatment is most effective when you are fully informed of every aspect of your surgical care. We find that when patients understand the procedures they are to undergo, they are more able to relax, which facilitates a productive relationship and successful treatment results. If surgery is necessary, we will explain the procedure to you in detail. Dr. Barber and Dr. Springer have enjoyed many years of clinical and surgical experience and can handle the most delicate surgical procedures with ease and efficiency.
  • Comfort: Your comfort is of utmost importance to us. We nurture a relaxing, reassuring atmosphere and provide sedation or general anesthesia when necessary. If there is anything we can do to relieve your unique apprehensions, please do not hesitate to tell us.
  • Consideration: Perhaps most importantly, general dentists refer their patients to us not only because of their confidence in our extensive training but because of their respect for the concerned, compassionate care we provide our patients.

OUR MISSION

We strive always to treat our patients as we would like to be treated ourselves. With professional compassion and concern, we dedicate ourselves to advancing the well-being and comfort of all of our patients. We recognize that our patients have unique wants and needs, and it is our highest priority to provide individualized care and attention for every patient.

Your First Oral Surgery Visit

To make the registration process run as smoothly as possible, please complete the patient registration form on our website prior to your first initial consultation.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your referral slip from your dentist and any X-rays if applicable.
  • A list of medications you are presently taking.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms and your insurance card.
  • IMPORTANT: If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must accompany you to the consultation visit.

Making sound decisions about your dental care and oral health is an easy thing to do with the right preparation beforehand. Make a list of questions to ask our office so that you don’t forget anything on the day of your appointment. This includes any concerns you have or oral problems you’ve been experiencing.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MY CONSULTATION?

When you arrive for your first visit, our friendly office staff will confirm your personal information and collect the proper registration materials. During your initial appointment, Dr. Barber or Dr. Springer will perform an initial consultation and comprehensive examination to determine your diagnosis. Once your diagnosis is determined, the oral surgeon will outline his recommendation for treatment. We are happy to work with you and help you determine a treatment plan that you feel comfortable with.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (e.g., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

If you will be undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery, a pre-operative consultation and physical examination are required prior to your treatment. On the day of your procedure, you will need to arrange a ride from an adult to and from the office.

Anesthesia Options For Oral Surgery

We offer many anesthesia options for you to choose from, so you can remain relaxed and comfortable during treatment.

3D Cone Beam CT Scanning

Using advanced technology and 3D scanning, we can provide highly accurate and effective treatment.

Instructions

Having the proper pre- and post-operative care is the best way to guarantee that your recovery is both comfortable and quick. Often, patients come into our office having never undergone surgery before, and as such, don’t have an idea of what to expect. We are proud to be able to provide our patients with instructions that specifically outline the steps they need to follow to achieve the best post-surgical results. Patients typically receive pre-operative instructions and more specific post-operative instructions depending on the procedure they are undergoing. We urge you to review both sets of instructions before coming in for treatment, as it’s vital that you understand them completely. If you have read the instructions and there are parts you do not understand, please contact our office immediately, and we would be happy to address any of your concerns.
